The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing provides students with a holistic understanding of the birth process, pregnancy, labour and the postnatal phase and a thorough knowledge of the maternity cycle, anatomy and physiological changes during pregnancy. Training is also provided to identify high-risk cases and develop a specialised care regimen for those groups. Nurses from Diploma Undergraduate and Postgraduate disciplines are also oriented to skills in obstetrics and gynaecological nursing.
The vision of Obstetric and Gynecological department is to strive for excellence in education, practice and research related to maternal and child health nursing.
- To develop the essential obstetrics and gynaecological knowledge and skill required to work and perform as able midwives in various health care settings.
- To improve midwifery practice & encourage a uniform standard of practice by providing quality evidence-based care.
- Prepare the students to function as an independent midwifery nurse practitioner.
- Create a body of nurse education with demonstrated skill in teaching through various modern education methods and technology.
- Extend professional services to the community.
- Facilitates faculty development through CNE, Journal Club, ITP, SAF, Orientation and refresher courses, seminar, workshop and conference.
